Emphasis is on basic instruction of line, shape, symmetry, color, composition, texture and balance, as well as creativity and art history using famous pieces. A variety of media are used throughout the learning process.  Student art is showcased in the classroom, as well as opportunities given for students to use their Art skills creatively in literature, history, and various other subjects.

Physical Education

The Academy provides a comprehensive, sequential physical education program for grades K-8. The Physical Education (PE) program is structured to meet the California requirements for active participation in acquiring basic skills in the following areas: sensorimotor and perceptual motor, locomotor, non-locomotor, balance, eye-hand coordination, eye-foot coordination, general coordination, and creative movement. Students are introduced to a wide variety of sports and activities with emphasis placed on improving physical health and learning teamwork.

Computer Skills

The computer lab at The Academy serves as an interactive classroom setting for learning the fundamental skills of computer proficiency. Keyboarding and Microsoft Office programs comprise the main components of instruction. These skills allow for students to use computers in a wide variety of classroom projects, helping to prepare them for productivity and success in their future academic and professional pursuits.

Music

The Music program is incorporated into the classroom learning environment through a variety of experiences. Students participate in choral singing throughout the school year. They also gain exposure to genres of music, famous composers, and basic music instruction through scales, notes, and tempo. The handbells are introduced in fourth grade.

Field Trips

The Academy believes that learning outside of the classroom is an important complement to traditional classroom learning. Therefore, students participate in enriching learning experiences outside of the classroom on a regular basis.  All activities correlate to The Academy’s academic content standards and serve to enhance the educational process.
